What are camp physicals and what do they include?

Many summer and team sports camps require a physical exam prior to participation. These exams are generally brief and include a review of a patient's medical history and a basic physical exam. Most importantly, camp and sports physicals ensure children and athletes can participate in athletic and summer activities safely.

With a sports or camp physical at Piedmont Urgent Care, our providers will check vitals, vision, joints, and flexibility, as well as review a patient’s medical history. A short fitness assessment may also be conducted to identify any possible limitations on physical activity.

Medical history is just as important as a physical exam. Understanding past illnesses, surgeries, or conditions such as asthma will help in making recommendations to prevent health issues that may pop up when participating in camp and sports activities.

During a fitness assessment of a sports physical, providers will examine the ears, nose, throat, heart, lungs and abdomen. These exams help to create a picture of overall cardiovascular health and aid in recommending any limitations on physical activity.

What To Know Before Your Physical

No appointment needed, walk-ins always welcome
Bring any necessary forms required by state, camp, sports team, or school and glasses or contacts if worn
Forms must be completed in their entirety prior to patient being registered
Minors require parent or legal guardian present at time of visit. If athlete is under the age of 18 & does not have parent or legal guardian present, Piedmont Urgent Care cannot provide treatment
Any additional lab tests or services will result in additional charges
